About Natalia Shpytkovska
Doctor of Philosophy in Cultural Studies with a focus on Art Collecting, Art Consultant, Art Manager, Curator, Researcher.
“The well-known public collections, foundations and museums constantly attract millions of visitors over the years, educating, developing and inspiring new generations. By investing in art, we invest in the future by recognizing and preserving human talent and uniqueness.”
Natalia Shpytkovska has been an experienced Art Consultant, Curator and Culture Manager for over a decade now. Natalia has a PhD in Cultural Studies from the Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, with a focus on the History of Art Collecting.
“My scientific research focuses on the phenomenon of art collecting and its social and cultural significance. As a matter of fact, the majority of fortunate people had collecting habits. However, only a few have left their mark on history, preserving incredible and rare art collections and museums.”
For over 17 years, Natalia’s career has evolved in various art industry segments gaining her valuable practical competencies: art management, art advisory, conferences, research and exhibition project management. Overtaking managing positions at the M17 Contemporary Art Center and previously at the Modern Art Research Center in Ukraine, today Shpytkovska continues her cooperation with the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, the leading state institution for art science and research. Natalia Shpytkovska is also currently the founder of ArtCult Gallery to support charitable initiatives and activities.
By organizing regular international visits for collectors, Natalia has developed important networking with renowned international cultural institutions, museums, galleries and collectors, such as Foundation Beyeler, Christie’s, Art Basel fair, Frieze, Contemporary Istanbul, Ukrainian Institute, Ukrainian Cultural Fund, National Art Museum of Ukraine and others. She was the one to initiate the first international art collectors forum in Ukraine, inviting prominent experts to participate. She liaises with leading modern art experts and co-organized the International Forum on the anniversary of Kazimir Malevich in the exhibition: “Avant-Garde: In Search of the Fourth Dimension”. By managing another exhibition “An Open Opportunity: Ukrainian Contemporary Art from Private Collections”, she provided a venue for the display of the collectors’ public gift to the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Shpytkovska was one of the initiators of the first Sculpture Prize in Ukraine, Non-Objective and Digital Art projects, advising collectors on these media in their art collections.
“For many years I have been advising collectors on buying art, on management and inventory of collections, exhibitions. I have organized tours and visits for Ukrainian and international collectors to major art events: biennales, fairs, auctions, etc. My passion for arts stems from the need for continuous intellectual growth, challenging goals and evolving talented people I have been lucky enough to meet for inspiration.”
Over her career, Natalia has held more than 70 different art shows in Ukraine and internationally, including “Ukrainian Insights” at the Headquarters of the United Nations, New York; “Israeli Contemporary Art” in Ukraine, “Superhero” international art project at the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, “Memory of Unconsciousness” at Woodrow Wilson Centre in Washington; “Coal Goal”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine; “The Coefficient of Independence”, America house in Ukraine, etc.
“For many, collecting art is a conscious way of life, opening up an alternative way of thinking and world perception. Join us to learn, discover the art and meet outstanding personalities.”
