About Art Basel 2026
Often described as the epicentre of the global art world, Art Basel returns to its founding city from 18 to 21 June 2026, with Preview Days taking place on 16 and 17 June, once again transforming Basel into a week-long convergence of art, collecting, institutions, and cultural discourse.
Held at Messe Basel, the fair will bring together 290 galleries from 43 countries and territories, reaffirming its position as the most comprehensive and influential event on the international art market calendar.
A Fair that Defines the Market
Unlike many newer fairs shaped by spectacle or lifestyle positioning, Basel continues to function as the industry’s principal reference point.
Participating galleries for 2026 include major international names such as Hauser & Wirth, David Zwirner, Acquavella Galleries, Galerie Buchholz, and Tanya Bonakdar Gallery among many others spanning Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East.
This year’s edition also welcomes 21 new exhibitors, including galleries from Côte d’Ivoire, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey – a sign of the fair’s continued geographic expansion and its effort to reflect broader shifts within the global market.

The Growing Importance of Newer Sectors
Art Basel 2026 continues to expand Premiere, the sector introduced to spotlight recent artistic production created within the past five years. Now growing from 10 to 17 presentations, the section reflects changing collector behaviour and a market increasingly attentive to mid-career and institutionally emerging artists.
At the same time, the fair further deepens its engagement with digital culture through the Swiss debut of Zero 10, Art Basel’s global initiative dedicated to art of the digital era. Now in its third edition and largest presentation to date, the platform will feature 20 exhibitors and artists including Hito Steyerl, Andreas Gursky, Avery Singer, John Gerrard, and Vera Molnar.
History of Art Basel
Founded in 1970 by gallerists from Basel, Art Basel today stages the world's premier art shows for Modern and contemporary art, sited in Basel, Paris, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong. Defined by its host city and region, each show is unique, which is reflected in its participating galleries, artworks presented, and the content of parallel programming produced in collaboration with local institutions for each edition.
Art Basel’s engagement has expanded beyond art fairs through new digital platforms and a number of new initiatives such as the Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report, Intersections: The Art Basel Podcast and the BMW Art Journey. Art Basel's Global Media Partner is The Financial Times.
