The Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève is currently hosting "Rituals of Care," the first mid-career survey in Europe dedicated to Brazilian artist Antonio Obá.
Antonio Obá's multifaceted practice encompasses painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video, and performance. His work delves into themes of spirituality, identity, and the reclamation of historical narratives, often reflecting on African-Brazilian experiences and addressing the impact of systemic erasure.
Curated by the Centre's director, Andrea Bellini, the exhibition spans two floors of the Centre, presenting a nonlinear path through a variety of media, including paintings, installations, and film. Obá creates immersive environments that invite viewers to engage with the complexities of identity and history, offering a space where reflection and renewal coexist.
To provide deeper insights into the exhibition, Andrea Bellini has conducting an exclusive guided tour on the 30 of January, offering visitors an opportunity to explore Obá's work through the curator's perspective.
The exhibition is on view until February 16, 2025.
