Overview
Contemporary Istanbul marks its 20th anniversary in 2025, returning to the historic Tersane Istanbul — a space where the city’s layered past meets its dynamic present. Over two decades, the fair has become the leading platform for contemporary art in the region, hosting world-class galleries, institutions, and collectors while strengthening Istanbul’s role as a global cultural hub.
The 2025 edition features an expanded international program, including institutional collaborations with Palais de Tokyo, Asia Society, Mori Art Museum, and Barjeel Art Foundation, as well as a landmark dual presentation of the BMW Art Cars. This year’s Focus America highlights USA and its shifting cultural narratives, with leading museum directors and curators contributing to the dialogue. Parallel to the fair, Istanbul will host major cultural events: the 18th Istanbul Biennial, the debut of the Golden Horn Light Festival, and the return of the Contemporary Istanbul Foundation Dialogues under the theme “Dispersing Coordinates.”
We help our clients gain privileged access to these remarkable events and offer a dedicated VIP program from September 23–25, 2025, including private collection visits, curated tours, and exclusive receptions.

18th Istanbul Biennial
The 18th Istanbul Biennial will run from 20 September to 23 November 2025, curated by Christine Tohmé and organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV). Established in 1987, the Biennial is Turkey’s most important international exhibition of contemporary art and one of the longest-running biennials worldwide, held every two years in Istanbul.
The 2025 edition will present works by more than 40 international and local artists. Exhibitions are spread across major cultural and historical venues in Beyoğlu and Karaköy, with a program that integrates museums, galleries, and public spaces in the city. Key sites traditionally include Istanbul Modern, Pera Museum, Arter, Salt Beyoğlu, and historic buildings adapted for site-specific installations.

Parallel Exhibitions
In addition to the fair program, visitors to Istanbul will have the opportunity to explore major institutional and gallery exhibitions across the city — from Istanbul Modern and Elgiz Museum to Arter, Pilevneli Gallery, and special projects at Zeyrek Çinili Hamam and private collections.
Influential Figures of Turkey’s Art Scene
With its dynamic economy and centuries-old cultural crossroads, Turkey has produced a circle of powerful families and entrepreneurs whose fortunes extend from banking and industry to real estate and hospitality.
Within this elite, a select group stands out as patrons and collectors, channeling significant private wealth into museums, foundations, and collections that shape Istanbul’s position in the global art world.
Golden Horn Light Festival
From 18 to 28 September 2025, Istanbul’s historic waterfront will transform into a luminous open-air gallery during the Golden Horn Light Festival, organized by the Contemporary Istanbul Foundation. Over 20 large-scale light-based and digital artworks will animate approximately 3–3.5 kilometres of the shoreline—from Atatürk Bridge through Tersane Istanbul to Balat Pier—bringing together 14–16 site-specific works by renowned international and local artists, along with 5–6 commissions from emerging talents.
Key locations include Tersane Istanbul, Balat Pier, Fener Greek School, Zeyrek Cistern, and Sveti Stefan Church—each illuminated to redefine public engagement and activate the cityscape after dark.
