The eponymous picture by Dmytro Kozatskyi “Light Will Win” remains a symbol of resilience and honour for all the defenders of Azovstal, who fought with meagre forces against the enemies for three months in April-May 2022.

About the artist

Dmytro Kozatsky (1995, Malyn) is a Ukrainian photographer, serviceman, senior soldier, and fighter of the Azov Battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was awarded the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine (2022)
The Azov regiment fighter made his photography from the sieged Azovstal steel plant available to everyone, asking for them to be shared as much as possible.
“By the way, while I will be in captivity, I leave you my photos, apply them to all the journalist awards and photography competitions for me. If I get something, I will be really pleased to learn about it after I am released. Thank you all for your support. See you.”, he wrote.
Dmytro and other fighters of Azovstal in Mariupol were defending the city for 82 days with limited supplies of food and water, they also saved more than 1000 civilians (mostly women and children) that found shelter, food and water at the plant and later were evacuated.
On September 21 Dmytro together with some others Azov fighters was finally released.
