The artwork by Medvyd are a bright manifestation of the modern professional art in Ukraine, known beyond its borders. The master's works are kept in museums of Ukraine, and in many private collections in the USA, Canada, Germany and other countries. Medvid is the author of numerous publications and cultural studies, where fundamentally important issues of form, content, and synthesis in art are raised.
About the artist
Lubomir Medvid (b. 1941) – Ukrainian artist, culturologist, Professor, a Member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, laureate of the Shevchenko Prize (2014), the first "Renaissance" prize in Lviv (1991).
Lubomir Medvid was born in Varyaz, Lviv region, Ukraine. Lives and works in Lviv. He is one of the leading specialists in the theory and practice of art synthesis.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Lyubomyr Medvid created portraits of prominent personalities of national and world-famous culture figures, among them portraits of Lesya Ukrainka (1971, 1972, 1981), Leo Tolstoy (1979), Mykola Gogol (1982, 1985), Mykhailo Hrushevskyi (1993), Ivan Franko (1994).
The theme of "Evacuation", as one of the tragic pages in Ukrainian 20th century history, was continued in the following series - "Emigrants" and "Halychansky fates" (1982-1987).
Later, the artist began to rethink human actions on a planetary scale in such painting series as "Proverbs" ("The Prodigal Son") (1991-1996), EcceHomo (1995-1997), "Terraincognita" (1993-1995), and "Target - Crown", "Target - Apple" (2022).
The artist had personal exhibitions in Lviv (1972, 1987, 1990, 1996, 2011), Toronto (1990), New York (1992), Chicago (1992), Bytov and Warsaw (1999), Hangzhou (2012), participated in group exhibitions exhibitions in New York, Houston, Krakow, together with the famous Lviv artists Oleg Minko and Zenovii Flinta, he exhibited his works in Kyiv and Vilnius.
