Denis Struk created the painting using the palimpsest technique. Palimpsest used to be called parchment, on which the original text was erased, and a new one was written on top of it. This reduced the cost of books, because parchment was a rather expensive material.
The old text was washed away or scrapped and written on the sheets then cleaned again. Thus, the painting resembles an ancient parchment, on which one story is superimposed on another.
