About the artist
Igor Gusev is a well-known Ukrainian artist, poet, author of performances, films, objects and installations, participant and organizer of many art events, leader of the "Art Raiders" movement, founder of the underground gallery "Norma". Gusev was born in 1970 in Odesa. He graduated from the Odesa Art School named after M.B. Grekov (painting was taught by Volodymyr Krishtopenko, drawing by Vitaly Alikberov). Permanent participant of major exhibition projects, such as "Restart", "Space Odyssey", "Independents", "20 years of presence", special project of the First Kyiv International Biennale of Contemporary Art ARSENALE 2012 "Double Game", Odesa Biennale of Contemporary Art, "Days of Ukraine in Great Britain". Ihor Gusev has been participating in exhibitions since the early 90s and is a representative of the New Wave of Ukrainian contemporary art. Gusev has been returning to his recognizable manner for the past five to seven years. However, some art critics consider the work "The Car and the Cat" written in 1998 to be her starting point. At the first cursory glance at Gusev's paintings, it may seem that this is a classical painting. But after a second you understand that you were misled by the virtuoso performance technique. Idyllic plots full of pacification and irony are disturbed here and there by colored stripes, obstacles and digital errors. Nowadays he lives and works in Odesa.
