The history of our union. When we became one whole organism in the most difficult times. She became a source of inspiration and impetus to will and fight against our enemy. Unity gave us a common goal, support and the will to win. We felt more than ever that it is important to feel a sense of belonging and support each other during this difficult time.
United in the sorrow of war now, we will be united in the joy of victory later.

The main impetus for this work was the terrible news about the events in Buch, Irpen, Gostomel, and especially in Mariupol, during the first stage of the occupation of Ukraine in the spring of 2022, related to the mass targeted killings of the civilian population in these peaceful Ukrainian cities. The shock and incomplete awareness of what happened and became a reality in the 21st century literally pushed this canvas out of me.
On the one hand, it is a reflection on the mentioned events, an attempt to plastically understand why words have been lacking until now - incredible pain, grief, hatred and anger mixed together, and on the other hand, it is an attempt to lay down the idea of continuing life in spite of death. I tried to use controversial means, depicting the dead, to use colorful colors that through tears and grief say - this tragedy is the beginning of the Ukrainian renaissance and as Dzhokhar Dudayev said: "The time will come and the Ukrainian sun will rise."
Also, one of the conceptual tasks was to show by plastic means the analogy of current events to human dramas that were the result of military aggressions and wars of aggression with mass crimes committed by Moscow troops, starting with the robbery of Kyiv by Andrii Bogolyubsky in 1169, and the Moscow kingdom, the Russian empire and USSR in the following centuries. At the same time, I aimed to give the work signs of the context of the modern full-scale Russian invasion of 2022-2023, which means to fit our tragedy into a global context. That is why I chose a mixture of plastic means of the Byzantine icon, the Italian Renaissance, as well as the Ukrainian Baroque with the addition of ornamented elements.

Willpower and free will are often compared and contrasted as two separate concepts. Willpower refers to the ability to control one's impulses and make conscious decisions. It includes the ability to resist temptation and stick to a chosen course even when faced with obstacles or difficulties. Free will, on the other hand, refers to the ability to make decisions that are not determined by external factors.
Although willpower and free will are different concepts, they are often interconnected. To exercise free will, a person must have the willpower to make decisions that are not determined by external factors. Likewise, developing strong willpower often involves making conscious decisions that align with one's values and priorities, which requires a certain level of agency. Willpower and free will play a significant role in shaping our lives and determining our choices.

The artwork by Medvyd are a bright manifestation of the modern professional art in Ukraine, known beyond its borders. The master's works are kept in museums of Ukraine, and in many private collections in the USA, Canada, Germany and other countries. Medvid is the author of numerous publications and cultural studies, where fundamentally important issues of form, content, and synthesis in art are raised.

I recognise by the wetness: I have been inattentive, I have exhausted myself, I thought I was unobserved until the mishap spread. I want to appear controlled and yet I want to run riot, stand in a dark room and be seen from outside. However: in no time at all, oblivion can lead to a state of neglect, while at the same time coaxing out a liberated laugh from you.

A special event occurs on this surface of the canvas, which cannot be fully described. There is a conflict between the language we normally use and the space that appears in relation to the work of art. This image, created by the artist, makes us think about the limits of the linguistic field and the limitations imposed by our existence.
The pictorial image, which differs from ordinary symbolic language, takes us into the realm of the Real, in which our subjects face the absence of meaning and the unknowable. In this sense, art brings us to an awareness of our own incompleteness and presents an opportunity to open up to unconscious sources of meaning and emotion.
Within the abstract shapes and colors lies the detonation of our desires and sufferings that transcend language and leave us on the edge of the semiotic and symbolic. This prompts our need to constantly seek and decode meaning within this picture, just as we attempt to decode our own incomplete and contradictory existences.
As such, this work of art invites us to explore the limits of language and symbols, allowing us to experience the absurdity and unknowability inherent in being human, and perhaps shed light on the hidden aspects of our subconscious.
The images and symbols presented in the paintings raise questions about our own knowledge and understanding of the world. They encourage us to think about how our knowledge is shaped and limited by dominant discourses and how we can break free from them to discover new perspectives and possibilities.
The surface of the canvas becomes a discursive field where the artist, through the act of creation, enters into a dialogue with history and existing cultural norms. It destroys conventional definitions and limitations, causing doubt and elimination in our understanding of reality.
