"Scorched Earth" is a project about the consequences of what I saw and experienced, when it seemed that the usual paints and canvases were not enough to convey my feelings. It seemed that no matter what I did, it was just a picture without emotion. Fire, which was destroying everything around it, became the form of expression that could show that destruction would necessarily create something new.

Works created by fire are a freeze-frame of destruction, which should not be feared, but simply accepted as a fact of irreversibility of what has already happened. My project is about a fire that destroys, but in this place, over time, flowers will definitely grow, the flowers of our future.

Zakhar Shevchuk's "Scorched Earth"

“Scorched Earth is about the consequences of what I witnessed and experienced… when it seemed that my usual paints and canvases were not enough to express my feelings. It seemed that whatever I created was just a picture with no emotion. The fire, which destroyed everything around me, became a form of expression showing that destruction is bound to create something new.

The works created by a fire are a stop-motion image of destruction, which should not be fearsome, but accepted as a fact of the irreversibility of an event that has already happened. My project is about the fire that destroys, yet flowers will grow in this place, over time, the flowers of our future."
